Organization is run by the company Matkovin, which has its base in Tvøroyri. The company was founded on June 18, 2019, on the same day as the UN’s Sustainable Gastronomy Day.

“The company’s objective is to provide services, organization and counseling on sustainable food culture, as well as other activities in this regard.”

The undersigned, Sunniva Gudmundsdóttir Mortensen, owns and runs Matkovin. I am an anthropology graduate, majoring in food, environment and visual communication, and presently I am taking agricultural courses at the Faroese Agency for Agriculture and Aquaculture in Kollafjørður.

In recent years I have participated in various projects concerning Faroese food – with the Association of Outlying islands, Slow Food and other local players. In this connection, I worked with various food producers who told me about conditions that were impeding their businesses, such as unfair competition with imported goods, too low selling prices, insufficient public information, and insufficient political will to strengthen the production of Faroese food.

The Faroese food industry can be developed and strengthened in various ways. There are numerous solutions. Personally, I have felt the need for a web portal that brings together all the information about Faroese food producers and the local food that is available for sale throughout the Faroes. Therefore, I have taken measures to develop such a web portal,
